About

André Filur is a self-taught visual artist, born and lives in São Paulo (Brazil).

Initially an illustrator, he discovered in graffiti the possibility of expanding and intervening in different media, but as his investigation deepens, his work starts to transit in various supports and techniques.

His research is based on Brazilian popular art and its mysticisms, with an emphasis on the figureheads of São Francisco, ex-votos, symbologies of African and indigenous matrixes with a contemporary look.

In addition, within his research, the artist seeks to rescue his ancestry and portray feelings experienced. From these references, Filur has a strong relationship with his dreams, many of his works are already manifested even before the beginning of his execution, in direct contact with his oneiric universe. The image and the choice of colors, as well as the title, are already presented to him in this intimate relationship with the holistic universe, already foreseeing the developments for projects and exhibitions.

In this relationship, Filur’s works are a new way of mixing contemporary issues and materials with their own mythologies, giving new meaning to iconography and constructing new symbols, creating a new popular and sacred imagery.
